New York regulators approved a ruling that incorporates the 2023 National Electrical Code into the state’s 2025 Uniform Code, reports NYEIA.
This adoption changes how the state handles electrical standards inside buildings and infrastructure.
Under the new framework, jurisdictions across New York will need to comply with updated requirements like expanded safety protections, energy efficiency mandates, and modern wiring practices.
Installers, contractors, and inspectors will face new rules and inspections coming later in the transition period.
Because New York previously operated under the 2017 edition in many areas, this move will require electricians across the state to update their knowledge and methods to stay compliant.
As the code takes effect, those who train now in the 2023 NEC will gain an advantage in the evolving market.
