Let’s cut to the chase: procrastination is more dangerous than a tricky code question—because it doesn’t just slow you down, it convinces you that later is good enough.
And when you’re prepping for the electrician exam? Later is the fastest route to failing.
We’ve coached a lot of electricians. The smartest ones? Some of them procrastinated too. But they learned to see it for what it is: a habit that disguises itself as “I’ll do it tomorrow.”
Signs You’re Procrastinating:
-
You keep telling yourself you “work better under pressure.”
-
You’re waiting until you “feel ready.”
-
You’re suddenly organizing your truck or deep-cleaning your workbench instead of studying.
-
You’re saying “I’ll study after I _______.”
Sound familiar?
Here’s how to crush it—our way.
The Electrical Excel Anti-Procrastination Method:
1. Shrink the Task
“Study the NEC” feels like lifting a transformer with one hand.
Instead: “Review Article 250 for 20 minutes” or “Do 5 practice questions.”
Small tasks are doable. And momentum beats motivation every time.
2. Set Real Deadlines (and Put Them Somewhere Visible)
Don’t leave it floating in your head. Use a calendar. Use tape. Use your bathroom mirror.
If it’s not written down, it’s a wish—not a plan.
3. Reward Progress, Not Perfection
Done your 30 minutes? ✅ Snack break. ✅ Stretch. ✅ Scroll—just for a bit.
Train your brain to want progress.
4. Kill the Noise
Phone = off. TV = off. Distractions = gone.
Set a timer, study hard, then come back to the world.
5. Track What You’ve Knocked Out
Grab a to-do list or calendar app. Crossing stuff off feels good—and shows you’re moving forward.
Procrastination isn’t a personality trait. It’s just a habit. And like any habit, it can be rewired—if you’re serious about passing. So don’t wait for “the perfect time.”
You’ve got 10 minutes right now? Start with that.
