PSI Master Electrician Exam in Texas
The first step in becoming a licensed Master Electrician in Texas is to pass the PSI Master Electrician Exam. In this comprehensive guide, we'll walk you through everything you need to know about the exam, from eligibility requirements to the application process.
Eligibility Requirements:
Before you can apply to take the PSI Master Electrician Exam in Texas, you must meet certain eligibility requirements. These include:
1. Work Experience
You must have a minimum of 2 years of work experience as a licensed journeyman electrician in Texas. You must also demonstrate that you have accumulated 12,000 hours of on-the-job training under the supervision of a Texas-licensed Master Electrician.
Reach out and acquire verification from each Master Electrician who supervised your work.
If you possess or have previously held a municipal or regional master electrician’s license, you can validate your own "on-the-job training" for the duration of your licensure.
It's imperative to document this experience and have each supervisor sign an Experience Verification Form (PDF). Your license application form (refer below) will come with an attached Experience Verification Form. Ensure each supervisor fills out a new form.
In case direct contact with your supervisor(s) proves difficult, you may consider reaching out to the Electrical Contractor under whom the Master Electrician worked. You can request the contractor to facilitate contact with the Master Electrician on your behalf. If you lack the contact details of a Master Electrician or Electrical Contractor, you can explore the TDLR license search to obtain this information.

You are only required to retake a failed portion; a passed portion will never expire.
